Ski Science Workshop: Biomechanics! A Turn For The Best!

Biomechanics is the science of classical mechanics applied to biological systems. Essentially, it treats the skeleton as a system of levers and fulcrums to balance forces and create efficient movement.
The human body is a miricle of engineering.
Combining great images with comprehensive science, Dr. Kim Hewson and Assistant Director of Telluride Ski and Snowboard School, Nick Herrin, presented the do's and don't's of stance, posture, and muscular-skeletal interaction providing invaluable tips to skiers and boarders chasing that perfect turn

Dr. Kim Hewson discussing the initiation, engaging and control of a turn.

Asst. Director Nick Herrin demonstrates the motions of the pelvis, a 'shock absorber' few folk realize has modes of motion.

Dr. Kim Hewson illustrates the movements of the foot--not restricted to the ankle, but complete with motions of the metatarcels that increase control and edging.
Dr, Kim Hewson will lead a Knee Building workshop explaining the mechanics of the knee and the reconstructive surgery that can make the joint as good a new after common injuries of the ACL, and other ligaments. Stay tuned for date and time!
Bob Gleason, from Telluride's own Boot Drs., will lead a Ski Science Workshop, Saturday, March 10, at 4:30 pm in the Program Room, on Custom Boot Fitting and the Biomechanics of the feet.
