FREE FILM: The sacred Balance

Our next free film series begins with a four part series: The Sacred Balance.

"Like all life, we're part of Earth's chemistry, put together and taken apart by the great cycles of Gaia." - David Suzuki

This intriguing film explores a new scientific worldview establishing the interconnectivity of all life, and our place as humans within the cosmos. With Dr. David Suzuki as our guide, we travel across seven continents discussing the unseen with priests, shamans, philosophers and scientists. Where these circles overlap we find a common center--a great agreement--and something more than all of us is evinced.

Each film is 53 minutes.

The Sacred Balance All shown in the Program Room.

Part 1: Journey into New Worlds. Monday, April 2, at 6pm
Dr. Suzuki examines the Newtonian reductionist worldview, while traveling across Arizona, England, Massachusetts, and the Pacific NW, searching for a new vision of the earth. Perhaps this vision is an old vision, but one reawakening in the human heart.

With James Lovelock, physiologist Ary Goldberger, astronaut Julie Payette, and biologist Thomas Reiman.

Part 2: The Matrix of Life. Monday April 16, 6pm
This episode reveals the interconnectivity of the ancient elements water and air; the subtle interface between them bridges life. Dr. Suzuki travels the world, starting on the banks of the sacred Ganges river in India, to discourse with Dr. Veer Bhadra Mishra, a Hindu priest and hydrological engineer, to evince the Hindu worldview of interconnectivity. From Las Vegas, and Fantasy City--a city built on water in the middle of the desert--to South Africa, where he descends into the deepest gold mine in the world to sample chemotrophic bacteria that live far from the life-giving rays of the sun, Dr. Suzuki raises philosophical questions with answers that flash intuitively.

With geomicrobiologist Tullis Onstott, chemist Richard Saykally, astrobiologist Malcolm Walter, NASA scientist Michael Keller, and ecologist David Schindler.

Part 3: The Fire of Creation. Monday, April 30, 6pm
Follow the images of the sun in this fascinating episode that enjoins energy and matter. All life is made possible by the stellar rays, that curious dialectic known as the electromagnetic spectrum, and the fusion of elements in the solar core. While Dr. Suzuki travels through myth and ancient cultures, he discovers that science too can bring reverence to the mystery of life and the wonder of the sun.

With cosmologist Brian Swimme and anthropologist Stephen Lansing.

Part 4: Coming Home. Tuesday, May 8, 6pm
Dr. Suzuki wanders the artic extremities of baffin Island, and joins the Inuit of Pond Inlet on their Spring hunt to examine the invisible sides of human needs--the needs beyone the physical necessities; the needs of spirit. Following these people he discovers a happiness and unspoken bond--between the people and their land as well--while living in one of the world's most unforgiving, harsh environments.

With E. O. Wilson, ethnobotanist Wade Davis, and Harvard psychologist, Sarah Conn.

Poetry Night
by Ben Williams

Eyes lit up like stars
And hearts blazed as suns
Around the room starlight turns
And roses bloomed
Speech prepared, sets off and runs
Light-years, flashing moments shared
Of an eternity that leads nowhere
And everywhere
Silence sounds
No idle tongues
